Trek Overview
Poon Hill Trek is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Nepal for visitors. This route was officially opened for tourists in 1972, and since then many travelers have explored this region.
The name Poon Hill comes from the late Major Tek Bahadur Poon, a local resident of Ghorepani village. He served in the British Gurkha Army and later returned to his birthplace after retirement. One early morning during his walk, he reached the hill and discovered a beautiful panoramic sunrise view over the mountains. After that, he decided to build a viewpoint tower for visitors, and the place was named Poon Hill.
